It’s a real privilege and honor to serve you and to represent you at our State Capitol. In the months since the 2009 legislative Session ended much of my time has been spent working on common sense solutions on water, transportation, education and healthcare. As you may know, I Chair a Senate healthcare study committee and have spent a lot of time to help bring Georgian’s more affordable and accessible healthcare. Over the past few years Georgia has staked its claim as a national leader in healthcare reform passing several bills to incentive wellness, personal responsibility and portability of care as we strive to create a more patient-centered and prevention focused health care system. Today Georgian’s are better off because of these changes in healthcare.

Over past few months our nation has been embroiled in a national health care debate. At its core, the issue is “what is government’s proper role in healthcare?” Like never before in recent history, Americans have engaged to express their opinions about this issue to our leaders in Washington, DC. Since America’s founding, our citizens have had the freedom to select a healthcare provider and in recent years an insurance plan of their choice. These freedoms are under assault by leaders in Congress. Many of my constituents tell me that they do not want their government to stand between them and their doctor. For this reason I am working hard to protect and preserve Georgian’s freedom to select a healthcare provider and health insurance plan they need and prohibit any government from punishing people if they don’t participate in a mandated government plan.

I welcome your thoughts about your government’s role in healthcare as well as ask that your offer innovative solutions that will truly help make America’s healthcare more affordable, accessible and of the highest quality for everyone.
