Federal Health Care Legislation

Sunday March 21 2010, will go down as one of the biggest policy failures in our nation's history. America was founded on individual freedom and liberty. With the March 21st vote those principles were clearly abandoned by the President and Democrat-led Congress in Washington.

The federal takeover of health care will force businesses to buy health insurance or participate in government run health care - socialized medicine - doesn't solve any of the problems they promised to fix and it won't improve health care. This is just one more attempt by the government to control every area of our life.

Obamacare doesn't expand our access to health care, lower health care costs, improve health care quality nor strengthen the doctor-patient relationship. The Democrat's plan is estimated to cost Georgia taxpayers almost $500 million per year. They force businesses to buy health insurance for all their employees rather than hire more people, which will only increase our unemployment rate. This is a price tag Georgians cannot afford.

We know that the right to make your own health care choices are important to Georgians. This year the Georgia legislature passed my legislation (Senate Bill 317 incorporating it into Senate Bill 411) to prevent the government from mandating your participation in government or private health plans against your will and without being fined. These basic freedoms have always been worth protecting, but especially now in light of Congress’ vote and the President’s signing the bill that takes away these rights
